چکیده

Although low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is widely recognized as the major atherogenic lipoprotein and the primary target of lipid-lowering therapy,1 other lipoprotein species nonetheless appear to be involved in atherogenesis. These include very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), intermediate-density lipoproteins (IDL), and highdensity lipoproteins (HDL). Both VLDL and IDL are triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TGRLP). Thus, in the aftermath of unequivocal evidence that LDL lowering reduces risk for major coronary events and stroke,2 the field of lipid study is turning more of its attention to the other lipoproteins that appear to be involved in atherosclerosis. The recent Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) report1 of the National Cholesterol Education Program has summarized our current understanding of the relationship between other lipoprotein species and risk for coronary heart disease (CHD).

Evaluation of Lipid Profile in Women with Female Pattern Alopecia

Background: The correlation between coronary artery disease and androgenic alopecia has been demonstrated, but the mechanism of this association still remains to be cleared. Objective: To investigate lipid profile, as an indicator of coronary artery disease, in women with female pattern alopecia. Methods: Fifty one women with female pattern alopecia and thirty one healthy women with normal hair...

Lipids, apolipoproteins, and their ratios in relation to cardiovascular events with statin treatment.

BACKGROUND Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is the principal target of lipid-lowering therapy, but recent evidence has suggested more appropriate targets. We compared the relationships of on-treatment levels of LDL cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B, as well as ratios of total/HDL cholesterol, LDL/HDL cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B/A-I,...

Effects of Ramadan Fasting on Apolipoproteins A and B and Atherogenic Index in Fasting and Non-Fasting Students

Purpose: Several studies have been done on the effects of fasting on human health indicating the beneficial effects of fasting on weight control, lipid metabolism, and lowering blood pressure in healthy people. The present study aimed at investigating the effects of Ramadan fasting on apolipoproteins A and B (apo A and B) and the atherogenic index of the fasting and non-fasting students. Metho...

Rationale for using apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein A-I as indicators of cardiac risk and as targets for lipid-lowering therapy.

Although low density lipoprotein (LDL) is recognized as the primary lipid-related risk factor, and therefore the primary target for lipid-lowering therapy, there are in fact several limitations of only using LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) as the primary risk variable. New data are accumulating which speak in favour of apolipoproteins (apo) as more informative risk indicators/factors. ApoB, which indic...

Serum lipoprotein (a) as an atherosclerosis risk factor in men with androgenic alopecia

Background: The association between coronary artery disease and androgenic alopecia has been demonstrated, but few studies have focused on the mechanism of this association. The aim of this study was to evaluate the lipid profile in male pattern alopecia. Methods: In this case control study, 45 male patients with androgenic alopecia who were aged from 20 to 50 years and 45 men with a norma...
